Services and Facilities
The Home has 36 single bedrooms all with en -suite facilities.
All rooms are tastefully furnished and decorated, and “We actively
encourage our residents to personalise their own rooms.” some of the
bedrooms together with the dining area and lounge 2, also have excellent
views over Philadelphia Cricket ground.
T.V. and telephone points are available in all bedrooms. (Connection of
personal telephone line at BT normal rate)
All lounges
throughout the Home have large screen televisions, (fitted
with “Induction Loop Systems.” for the hard
of hearing.) video, DVD players and music systems, together
with mini-kitchens.
One lounge
is also equipped with digital satellite T.V.
Provision for those who wish to smoke has been made within one of the
lounges.
Our large dining room is centrally located within the home and has patio
doors leading to a sun terrace. Our regular entertainment nights and parties
are normally held in this room.
A payphone is situated in the Homes Foyer. Tel: (0191) 5846828
Appointments
If your family is unable to take you to your routine appointments, we
will be happy to look after any appointment cards etc. Transport and escorts
can be arranged, although please note that for non emergency and routine
appointments a separate charge (discussed in advance) may be made to cover
the cost of providing an escort and or taxi charge. (Obviously this does
not apply to emergency appointments)
Call System
A Responsible person will be assigned and introduced to you on admission,
or at a pre-admission visit. The responsible persons role is to ensure that
your individual needs are catered for, building up a two-way communication,
based on trust and friendship.
He/she will ensure:
- All property is listed on admission, valuables stored in the appropriate
place
(see Terms and Conditions – Valuables)
- Any items received at later dates e.g. new clothing, the property list
is kept up to date.
N.B. We request that all items of clothing are named prior to admission, preferably
with embroidered name tapes. We can obtain tapes on request.
Personal Items
Please feel free to bring into the Home, photographs, ornaments or anything
that will make your room more homely and individual. We will happily put
shelves up on your wall to accommodate these treasures for you. If you wish
to bring items of furniture, this is not normally a problem, however we
do ask that armchairs are flame retardant and thus comply with current Fire
regulations and the Health & Safety Act.
Also that items brought into the Home do not cause risks e.g. over cluttering
the room so as to endanger yourself or others.
Telephone
It is an option for you to have your own phone installed into your room.
The cost of installation, line rentals etc. will be met by yourself. You
will be billed for this in the same way as if you were in the community.
Front Door
For safety reasons the front door has a security code fitted. Access can
be gained by ringing the bell. Once inside the Home, we request that all
visitors sign the Visitors Book, this is to comply with Fire & Health
and Safety Regulations.
Outings
You may go out with family, friends etc. as you wish, however, we do request
that the person in charge is informed, again this is to comply with Fire
Regulations. You also may need to take medication with you.
Hairdressing
A Professional hairdresser visits the Home every week.
(A small charge is made for this service – payable directly to the
hairdresser)

Dentist and Optician
We have a Dentist and an Optician who visit the Home regularly, however,
at your request, you may choose the Dentist and Optician of your choice.
Physiotherapy
This service can be arranged via your G.P.
Chiropodist
A Chiropodist visits the Home on a regular basis, a charge will be made
for this service, (payable directly to the chiropodist) presently £5,
unless exemption is deemed due to a medical problem.
Doctors
If you need to change your doctor, the staff will be happy to advise you
of doctors surgeries in the area..
Our Activities Co-ordinator is Marion Reed, who organises all of residents
outings, activities and tuck/gift shop.
Marion has been with us since 1997 and previously Managed Houghton-le-Spring
Bingo Hall.
Marion's particular specialty is our regular: “Summer BBQ’s!”

Spiritual Needs
Regular Services for both Church of England and Roman Catholic clients.
Monthly Communion – Reverend Gurney, all denominations are welcome
to attend.
Regular visits from representatives of the Methodist Church.
We always endeavour to ensure our full support and assistance in meeting
any clients specific requests.
Family Support
Experienced, qualified and friendly support service offered with quiet
areas available in times of anguish or bereavement.
